CHILD NEW PATIENT CONSULTATION

We are passionate about creating a good rapport with children and their parents, treating areas early and conservatively to minimise caries risk. We support parents and children to be proactive in their dental health care, modify habits and practice regular maintenance. We want all children to enjoy visiting their dentist and encourage routine 6 monthly attendance. We recommend visits from the age of 6 months to allow young patients to become accustomed to the environment and become familiar with our dental team. This will help empower our young patients to strive towards prevention and promote general health and well-being. Your child’s orthodontic needs will be assessed.

CHILDREN FILLINGS

GLASS IONOMER CEMENT (GIC)
Glass ionomer is a very versatile material and especially suited for baby teeth. It bonds to tooth surfaces, encourages healing and protects teeth against bacterial acids. It is able to absorb fluoride from toothpastes to allow continuous protection provided a good level of oral hygiene is maintained with good dietary habits.

CHILD TOOTH EXTRACTION

  • Primary (baby) tooth
  • Permanent tooth including orthodontic extraction

FLUORIDE FUNCTION, RISK AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Fluoride occurs naturally in foods like tea, fish, beer and some water supplies. Only 10% of the UK population is exposed to fluoride from natural or artificial sources.

  • The Department of health UK recommends bi-annual topical fluoride application to all children and young adults from the age of 7.
  • Evidenced to reduce dental caries
  • Evidenced to arrest existing dental caries on tooth and root surfaces.
  • Children below the age of 3 are advised to use toothpaste with 1000 ppm fluoride, as a smear and avoid ingestion.
  • Children 3-6 years are advised to use no more than half pea sized toothpaste.
